Getting your ducks in a row

Ducks in a rowThe expression "I'm waiting until I get my ducks in a row" seems to get used a lot. I'm not sure if it's being used correctly. As commonly worded, it implies that one is waiting until details are all set, or people are ready to follow before the leader heads off.

In nature though, ducks don't seem to work this way. Watch them. One duck starts to move and the rest follow.

Leadership comes first and then--on cue--other ducks get in a row.

So to follow the example of those ducks, get moving. Don't wait for your ducks to get in a row, because that's not how it works.

Lead.

Take action.

Do something.

How about…now?
